Menopause Test at Menopause Centre Singapore

What Is Menopause?

Menopause is a natural part of ageing that signifies the end of a woman’s reproductive years. It occurs when oestrogen and progesterone levels decline, leading to the cessation of menstruation. A woman is considered postmenopausal after 12 consecutive months without going through her period.

Most women experience menopause between the ages of 45 and 55. For some, the transition can be physically, emotionally, and mentally overwhelming. We understand these challenges and are here to help you overcome them with compassion and confidence.

Why Menopause Tests Matter

Many women begin experiencing physical and psychological changes during perimenopause, the years leading up to menopause. These changes can be subtle at first and are often mistaken for stress or ageing.

Taking a menopause test is not necessarily to ‘prove’ that you are officially in menopause, but rather to provide clarity on the symptoms you are experiencing and how to manage them. This is especially important today, as women are living longer and may spend a significant portion of their lives in menopause.

More than 75% of women in Singapore experience menopausal symptoms, around 25% describe them as severe, and about one in three women experience long-term symptoms that can last seven years or longer.

Taking a menopause test helps you take a proactive approach to your help, especially as conditions like osteoporosis and urogenital and vaginal health issues become more prominent during menopause.

Who Should Consider Taking A Menopause Test

A menopause assessment is suitable for women who want clarity about their hormonal health, whether they are approaching menopause or already experiencing symptoms.

You should consider the test if you:

  • Are in your early 40s to early 50s (typical perimenopause age range).
  • Have irregular menstrual cycles: shorter, longer, heavier, lighter, or unpredictable.
  • Experience common menopausal symptoms, such as:
    • Hot flashes or night sweats
    • Sleep disturbances
    • Mood changes or irritability
    • Vaginal dryness or discomfort
    • Low libido
    • Brain fog, forgetfulness, or difficulty concentrating
    • Sudden weight changes or stubborn belly fat
    • Joint aches and fatigue
  • Suspect early or premature menopause, especially if you’re under 40 and experiencing symptoms.
  • Want to check fertility or family-planning considerations, as women can still get pregnant in perimenopause.
  • Have a family history of early menopause, osteoporosis, or hormone-related conditions.
  • Have undergone treatments that may affect hormones, such as:
    • Surgical removal of ovaries
    • Chemotherapy or radiation
    • Autoimmune conditions

How Do I Know I Am Menopausal?

Changes in menstrual cycles are an early indicator. Some women experience irregular cycles, shorter or skipped periods, or other menopause symptoms. A menopause test, which may include a blood test for menopause, can help confirm hormonal changes.

Menopause—Major Symptoms Checklist:

  • Hot flushes & night sweats: Sudden waves of heat, often accompanied by sweating and flushing, can heavily disrupt sleep and daily comfort.
  • Mood swings & irritability: Fluctuating hormone levels can cause emotional highs and lows, leading to hard-to-manage irritability or anxiety.
  • Fatigue & sleep disturbances: Difficulty falling or staying asleep, often due to night sweats or hormonal shifts, resulting in daytime exhaustion.
  • Vaginal dryness & reduced libido: Decreased oestrogen levels can lead to vaginal discomfort, pain during intercourse, and a lower sex drive.
  • Frequent urination or incontinence: Weakening pelvic floor muscles and hormonal changes can cause urgency and/or leakage.
  • Brain fog & memory issues: Difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, or mental sluggishness due to hormonal fluctuations.
  • Joint pain & body aches: Reduced oestrogen levels may contribute to inflammation and stiffness in joints and muscles.
  • Weight gain & slower metabolism: Hormonal shifts can lead to fat gain, particularly around the abdomen, and make weight management harder.
  • Hair thinning & dry skin: Declining oestrogen affects collagen production, leading to drier skin and increased hair shedding.

Menopause—Lesser Known Symptoms:

  • Tingling sensations
  • Burning mouth syndrome
  • Dizziness & balance issues
  • Heart palpitations
  • Digestive issues
  • Increased body odour
  • Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
  • Allergies & sensitivities
  • Gum problems & dry mouth

If you’re experiencing changes that feel unfamiliar, don’t ignore them. Menopause affects every woman differently, and recognising your symptoms is the first step toward feeling your best.

When to Seek Help

Women should seek a menopause assessment if they would like to gain confidence about entering their new stage of life, especially if their symptoms are starting to affect their quality of life, for example:

Bad hot flushes that disrupt sleep

Persistent sadness or anxiety

Heavy or frequent menstrual bleeding

Unexplained weight gain or fatigue

Pain during intercourse and more

You do not have to suffer in silence—small changes can make a big difference. The proper guidance, simple lifestyle adjustments, tailored treatments, and support from our doctors can help you feel like your best self again.

Interpreting Your Menopause Test Results & What the Numbers Mean

Menopause test results help assess where you are in the menopausal transition, but hormone levels can fluctuate especially during perimenopause. Results are always interpreted alongside symptoms, menstrual history, and overall health.

  1. FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone) – FSH rises as ovarian function declines, though levels may vary month to month.
  • Higher levels suggest declining ovarian activity
  • May be normal early in perimenopause and rise later
  • Persistently elevated levels may indicate approaching menopause

  1. Estradiol (E2) – Estradiol is the main estrogen hormone and declines as menopause approaches.
  • Lower levels are common with irregular periods
  • Decline contributes to hot flushes, sleep issues, and vaginal dryness
  • Fluctuations may cause mood changes and irritability

  1. AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) – AMH reflects ovarian reserve and helps assess menopausal progression.
  • Naturally declines with age
  • Low levels are common in perimenopause
  • Supports diagnosis but does not confirm menopause alone

  1. LH (Luteinizing Hormone) – LH often rises alongside FSH as ovarian function decreases.
  • Higher levels suggest reduced ovarian activity
  • Helps distinguish perimenopause from other hormonal conditions
  • Most useful when interpreted with FSH and estradiol

  1. Thyroid Profile (TSH, Free T4, Free T3) – Thyroid disorders can mimic menopause symptoms.
  • Helps rule out thyroid imbalance
  • Important in midlife when thyroid issues are more common
  • Clarifies whether symptoms are hormonal or thyroid-related

  1. Additional Markers (If Needed) – Further tests may assess long-term health risks and guide prevention, including:
  • Vitamin D (bone and immune health)
  • Lipid profile (cardiovascular risk)
  • Glucose and metabolic markers
  • Bone health indicators (osteoporosis risk)

Menopause: Other Crucial Health Assessments

In the years leading to and following menopause, the rate of many chronic conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer, also increases, making regular screenings essential:

Breast cancer screenings (40+ years): Every 1-2 years, or as your doctor advises.

Colon cancer screenings (50+ years): Every 10 years with a colonoscopy or more frequently with other tests.

Pap smears for sexually active women: Every 3 years or every 5 years if combined with an HPV test.

Yes. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and stress management can alleviate symptoms.

If you are still menstruating—even irregularly—pregnancy is possible.

Certain menopause supplements may help support common menopause symptoms, including magnesium, B-complex vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and specific herbal extracts. Effectiveness varies from person to person, and guidance from a qualified practitioner ensures supplements are chosen and dosed appropriately for your symptoms and health history.

Non-hormonal support often focuses on lifestyle optimisation, stress regulation, nutrition, targeted supplementation, and nervous system support. Mindful movement, strength training, sleep hygiene, and evidence-based wellness therapies can significantly improve comfort and quality of life without hormone therapy.

Sleep aids and relaxation tools can be helpful when used thoughtfully. Magnesium, calming botanicals, breathwork, and nervous-system-supportive practices may improve sleep quality. Addressing underlying contributors such as stress, blood sugar balance, and temperature regulation is key for sustainable improvement.

Jodie has been such a great help in my health journey! She really took the time to help me understand my body and gave super practical tips that actually fit into my daily routine. I learned so much about portion control, and I love how she explained how nutrition and exercise can be adjusted around the menstrual cycle — it made everything click for me. She’s knowledgeable, approachable, and easy to talk to. I feel a lot more confident now about making choices that work for me. Highly recommend her!

I also love their Clinical Core & Flow programme, which combines physiotherapy, Pilates, and yoga. It creates a supportive environment for women of all fitness levels.

On top of that, they offer innovative non-invasive treatments like Exion Body, Vanquish Me, and EmBody. These complement their holistic programmes perfectly by supporting body contouring, fat reduction, and muscle strengthening in a safe, effective way.

The team, especially Jodie, Shonia and Serene, are professional, caring, and genuinely invested in their clients’ well-being. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a place that integrates science, movement, and holistic care.

The struggles of postpartum recovery are real, and I’m so thankful to have found Prologue, a women’s wellness centre that truly understands and supports mothers like me.

Like many postpartum mums, I’ve been dealing with diastasis recti, a bulging tummy that makes me look pregnant, urinary incontinence that limits my activity with my kids, and difficulty losing pregnancy weight due to stress eating and late nights.

Since starting my personalised treatment plan here, I’ve seen real improvements. Weekly sessions with my nutritionist, Jodie, have helped me eat in a balanced and sustainable way. Physiotherapy sessions with Chloe and Jodie have strengthened my core and pelvic floor, while the Emsella chair has improved my incontinence. Embody treatments are helping with my DR, shockwave therapy is reducing bloating and stretch marks, and Exion Body treatments are tightening loose skin.

I’m truly grateful for the professional, encouraging, and caring team at Prologue who have supported me every step of the way. Highly recommended to any postpartum mother looking to recover, rebuild, and regain confidence.

Would highly highly recommend this place to postpartum ladies. Other than the many machine services to help with various issues such as DR, weak pelvic floor muscles and loose skin, they also have trained nutritionist and physiotherapist to help provide a holistic recovery experience! Truly glad that Proloque team has helped to resolved my DR and I have seen improvements in my core and pelvic floor muscles! Lastly, the space here is nicely done up and the team of ladies here are very friendly and professional.
