Cellulite

What Is Cellulite?

If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and noticed dimpling on your thighs or hips, you’re not alone. An estimated 80-90% of women experience cellulite at some point in their lives.

Cellulite is the uneven, lumpy skin that most commonly appears on the thighs, buttocks, hips, and abdomen. It forms when fat cells beneath the skin push up while fibrous bands pull down, creating a rippled effect.

While it isn’t a medical concern, cellulite can impact how we feel in our bodies. At Prologue, we believe that confidence and comfort in your skin are just as important as clinical outcomes.

What Causes Cellulite?

Several factors can influence the development of cellulite:

1

Genetics

A family history of cellulite can increase your likelihood of developing it.

2

Hormonal changes

Especially during puberty, pregnancy, or menopause.

3

Ageing

As we age, collagen levels decline and connective tissues weaken.

4

Lifestyle

Sedentary habits and diets high in processed foods may worsen its appearance.

5

Skin quality

Thin or less elastic skin makes dimpling more pronounced.

6

Circulation issues

Poor blood flow can cause fluid retention and compromised skin health, resulting in the appearance of cellulite.

It’s important to remember that poor lifestyle choices don’t cause cellulite. Even the most active, lean women experience it.

Is Cellulite the Same as Saggy Skin?

Not exactly. While both conditions can occur together, they have distinct causes. Cellulite is due to fat pushing through the connective tissue structure. Sagging skin typically results from collagen loss, weight fluctuations, or ageing.

That said, both can be improved with collagen-stimulating therapies. Our Prologue team will assess your skin and recommend a treatment plan that addresses your concerns holistically.

Is It Possible to Get Rid of Cellulite?

You may not be able to permanently “erase” cellulite, but Shockwave Therapy can significantly smooth and firm the skin for a visibly improved texture.

How Can I Tighten My Cellulite Quickly?

Shockwave Therapy can start showing visible improvements within a few sessions, with optimal results emerging as collagen continues to rebuild beneath the surface.

Supporting your skin health between treatments can help you get the most out of your results.

Staying well-hydrated keeps your skin plump and helps flush out toxins, while a balanced diet rich in whole foods and healthy fats provides the nutrients your skin needs to regenerate.

Regular exercise improves circulation and tones the muscles underneath, which can enhance your skin’s overall appearance.

What Is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy (also known as Acoustic Wave Therapy) is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy acoustic pulses to stimulate the skin and underlying tissues. Initially developed for musculoskeletal recovery, it is now widely used in aesthetic treatments to address cellulite, stretch marks, and skin laxity.

This therapy works without heat, making it safe for all skin tones with no risk of pigmentation. It promotes natural skin regeneration—no needles, surgery, or downtime required.

How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?

Shockwave energy induces precise microtrauma that triggers the body’s repair response:

Collagen & elastin production are stimulated, improving skin elasticity and tone.

Fibrous septae (the connective bands that create dimples) are broken down, leading to smoother, more even skin.

Lymphatic drainage and blood flow are enhanced, helping flush out fluid retention and support detoxification.

Because shockwave energy is non-thermal and doesn’t affect the skin’s surface, the treatment is safe for all skin tones, including darker or more sensitive skin. There’s no risk of pigmentation issues or burns, and intensity levels can be adjusted to suit your comfort. This makes it a gentle yet optimal choice for nearly anyone looking to improve skin texture without downtime.

The result is firmer, more even-looking skin with improved contour and texture, without any cause for concern.

Most clients undergo 4–6 sessions, spaced 1–2 weeks apart. Each session takes approximately 30–45 minutes.

Who Is This Treatment For?

Shockwave Therapy is suitable for anyone looking to reduce the appearance of cellulite or improve skin firmness without surgery.

It’s beneficial if you:

  • Are a mum experiencing postpartum body changes
  • Have mild to moderate cellulite on the thighs, hips, or buttocks
  • Want a gentle, non-invasive solution with no recovery time
  • Prefer to support your skin’s natural regeneration instead of more aggressive options

What Does a Typical Session Involve?

Each session takes around 30–45 minutes. You’ll feel a rhythmic tapping or pulsing on your skin—some of our clients describe it as a relaxing sensation.

No anaesthesia is required, and you can return to daily activities immediately afterwards

When Will I Feel a Difference?

Shockwave Therapy delivers progressive results that unfold over time, as your skin naturally rebuilds collagen and elastin.

Results Timeline

  • Session 1–2: You may notice slight improvements in skin texture and firmness.
  • Session 3–4: Early dimpling begins to reduce, and areas like thighs or hips may appear more contoured.
  • Session 5–6: Collagen production reaches its peak. The skin appears visibly firmer and more resilient, with a smoother texture.
  • 6–12 Weeks Post-Treatment: Continued regeneration further enhances your results. Clients often describe a renewed lightness and confidence in how they carry themselves.
  • Maintenance: Results can last several months. Follow-up sessions, held every 3–6 months, help sustain long-term benefits.

Let’s Smooth Things Over

Your body has carried you through so much, and it deserves gentle, intelligent care in return.

At Prologue, we’re here to support you in rewriting your relationship with your body, one step at a time. You don’t need to accept cellulite as a permanent fixture in your story.

FAQ

Unfortunately not. Exercise helps tone muscles but doesn’t eliminate cellulite.

Creams may temporarily improve hydration, but they aren’t effective alone.

While weight loss may reduce the appearance of cellulite in some individuals, it’s not a guaranteed solution.

Yes. Collagen remodelling from shockwave treatment can improve contour and reduce the appearance of hip dips.

None. The treatment is non-invasive and requires no recovery time.

Some experience changes after the first few sessions, with the best results typically occurring within 6–12 weeks.

Shockwave Therapy is suitable for most skin types. Additionally, during your consultation, your doctor will assess your unique skin concerns and address any questions you may have.

Jodie has been such a great help in my health journey! She really took the time to help me understand my body and gave super practical tips that actually fit into my daily routine. I learned so much about portion control, and I love how she explained how nutrition and exercise can be adjusted around the menstrual cycle — it made everything click for me. She’s knowledgeable, approachable, and easy to talk to. I feel a lot more confident now about making choices that work for me. Highly recommend her!

Prologue Wellness takes a truly holistic approach to weight management and well-being. Instead of quick fixes, they focus on educating clients about proper nutrition, helping us build sustainable habits that improve both health and quality of life.

I also love their Clinical Core & Flow programme, which combines physiotherapy, Pilates, and yoga. It creates a supportive environment for women of all fitness levels.

On top of that, they offer innovative non-invasive treatments like Exion Body, Vanquish Me, and EmBody. These complement their holistic programmes perfectly by supporting body contouring, fat reduction, and muscle strengthening in a safe, effective way.

The team, especially Jodie, Shonia and Serene, are professional, caring, and genuinely invested in their clients’ well-being. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a place that integrates science, movement, and holistic care.

The struggles of postpartum recovery are real, and I’m so thankful to have found Prologue, a women’s wellness centre that truly understands and supports mothers like me.

Like many postpartum mums, I’ve been dealing with diastasis recti, a bulging tummy that makes me look pregnant, urinary incontinence that limits my activity with my kids, and difficulty losing pregnancy weight due to stress eating and late nights.

Since starting my personalised treatment plan here, I’ve seen real improvements. Weekly sessions with my nutritionist, Jodie, have helped me eat in a balanced and sustainable way. Physiotherapy sessions with Chloe and Jodie have strengthened my core and pelvic floor, while the Emsella chair has improved my incontinence. Embody treatments are helping with my DR, shockwave therapy is reducing bloating and stretch marks, and Exion Body treatments are tightening loose skin.

I’m truly grateful for the professional, encouraging, and caring team at Prologue who have supported me every step of the way. Highly recommended to any postpartum mother looking to recover, rebuild, and regain confidence.
